Benefaction Foundation does not accept unsolicited applications for grants. However, the Directors do, at their discretion, make grants to organizations in Canada that have been determined by the Canada Revenue Agency to be charitable organizations or foundations. Charitable administration fees earned in excess of expenses are allocated 50/50 to two funds: The Directors Fund and The Philanthropy Fund.
Director’s grants are at the discretion of the individual Director and may be made to any charitable organization in Canada. The annual amount each Director may disburse is based on a weighted average of their years of service x the amount of reserves in the Director’s Fund pool for a given year.
Benefaction Foundation is a Public Foundation established to solicit donations for the purpose of establishing donor advised funds and planned giving programs which in turn provide gifts to qualified donees as defined under the Income Tax Act. Our mandate is to help affluent Canadians and their Advisors harness the advantages of strategic giving. We have built a reputation as a valuable resource for investment, legal and tax professionals who want to obtain a more comprehensive understanding of the role of charitable planning in their client’s financial and estate plan.
To that end, Philanthropy Fund Grants will be considered for organizations that either/or:
- Support philanthropy and/or charitable gift planning, a donor-centered process of planning current and future charitable gifts, in a way that meets the donor’s philanthropic goals and balances personal, family and tax considerations.
- Deliver high quality education that reinforces the competencies of gift planning professionals.
- Promote the growth and development of effective and responsible foundations and organized philanthropy in Canada.
- Advocate charitable giving by engaging in national dialogues and influencing public policy.
